New Friends

Hello All,

Last Sunday I had the opportunity to meet and hang out with the DC Hobbit League (DCHL) Their founder and organizer is man named Devin who has made it a mission to keep the Hobbit Strategy Battle Game not only alive but to have it thrive. Since their founding in December of 2014 they have made strides most other groups only see after months (or even years) of work.

The DCHL is made up of local clubs from places far and wide including several in the DC area as well as Chicago and the Carolina's. They are also affiliated with the Great British Hobbit league that has many more clubs and groups in Great Britain.

Sunday was a lot of fun. They were playing the 4th round of a War of the Ring event. War of the ring is a mass combat version of the Hobbit SBG. They had also set up a second table where they had an amazing mock up of  Lake Town (created bu professional terrain maker Alex Wright). When I arrived they were playing a multi-player game on that table.

In all it was a productive day and I had a load of fun. I am even considering dusting off some of my collection and giving it a go with the latest rules.

Over All I had a great time and I hope the DCHL thrives well into the 4th Age....

PS I finished some Warmachine Undead and wanted to show them off. :)

Till Next time

A sad day

http://www.paulkidby.com/colourprints/large.html
From Paul Kidby website: The picture above  depicts "Death", one of Pratchett's most beloved characters, playing a possessed guitar from the novel SOUL MUSIC. one of my favorites. This same picture was used for the cover of GURPS Diskworld in the late 90s.

Rest In Peace Sir Terry.

I have been reading Terry Pratchett novels since 1992. His books helped me get through a divorce and helped convince my current wife that I was actually interesting and not a geek. I have read and reread most of the diskworld books as well as several of his other series and stand alone novels. To know that there will be no more makes me sad.

The best Twitter comment depicts the character Death coming to claim Sir Terry.

"AT LAST, SIR TERRY, WE MUST WALK TOGETHER."

Attack Wing Tournament (A bust, but still a good day to Die)

Hello All,

Yesterday I ran my 4th Attack wing event and the 8th I have participated in. As far as turn out goes it was a bust with only two players showing up it was obvious who was going to walk away with a prize. (that would be all that showed up. :) On the other hand it was an opportunity to really have some fun. so on the fun scale it was a hit!.

The two players who showed up were both former champions and the battles they fought (we did best of three) were epic. One player brought the "Balls of Steele" (two Borg Spheres) and a Romulan Drone ship while the other brought a pure Vulcan fleet (to honor the late Leonard Nimoy.)

The first round went quick with the Vulcans getting crushed in less tan a half hour

The Balls of Steele

First turns

The Romulan Drone ship drops "Cloaked Mines"

Then the Borg Spheres move in for the Kill

Notice the floating mines

It went south for the Vulcan Fleet pretty fast at that point
Down to one ship

In rounds two and three both players agreed that the Borg list was a little too hard for such a light turn out. So the Borg player brought out a 2nd list he made up. This one primarily Klingon in the form of the Negh'var and the Regents's Flagship (Also of the Negh'var class.) as well as the Romulan Drone ship (This time without the cloaked mines.)

The battles were a little closer but the Klingons were also able to defeat the Vulcans.

It Begins

moving forward

The Negh'var has been destroyed
Round two was the closest the Vulcans came to victory as they destroyed the mighty Negh'var like it was a practice target. In the end the Klingon's were victorious even outnumbered.

Round 3- The Vulcans lose a ship early on

Down to one ship the Vulcan cruiser makes a break for it

Near the end.
The Vulcan Ship almost gets away but is
destroyed by the Bacteria that has been plaguing both fleets
All three games were awesome to watch as each player tried to out maneuver the other. It was a great day and I am glad I ran it.

More on this soon- Keep April 11th in mind. if all goes well I will be running Attack wing demos on this day at Fairfax comics and games (That is A Saturday.) We are working on trying to build the community so come on out.

Hello All.

Just a quick update on February activities. Not much to tell really as work is keeping me pretty busy. I Have managed to get a few things done despite the lack of a lot of free time.

ATTACK WING
I have a scheduled another OP event for March 8th. We will be playing an episode OP called "A MATTER OF HONOR" - Learn more here

While I was at it I painted up another Attack wing ship. This time the USS Equinox

I think it came out pretty good...

NOVA OPEN
The First Scheduled terrain build was canceled due to weather last week. It has been rescheduled for this Saturday. Come by if you can.

WARMACHINE

I managed to get a few things done for my Everblight Hordes army

There are actually 6 of the keepers

WARPATH

When I left my last job some of my coworkers got together and got me some cool swag for the new job- A keurig coffee maker, a Manager survival kit (complete with everything I would need for the new job including Tums, Pepto Bismol, and for especially bad days a tube of Preparation H.) One gift stood out. A great guy named Eric bought me an army as a going away present. (Eric if you see this - Thanks!) The army he picked was the Mantic-Warpath- Forge Fathers which is cool as I did not have that one.

I have put together most of the box and even picked up some extras to fill it out. I even managed to paint a few. now to find an opponent. :)

I am going with a paint scheme close to the GK  one I did in 2011.

Well that's all I have for now
