"The moon of the planet Bre’el IV is falling out of its orbit and the planet is being threatened with a cataclysmic event. While on a mission to correct the moon’s orbit and save the planet, an unexpected visitor arrives. Q has been thrown out of the Q-Continuum and is now a mortal and aboard your ship. He offers his assistance to correct the moon’s orbit, but you quickly learn that he might be more of a hindrance than a help. As you are trying to figure out how best to use the mortal Q’s knowledge, your fleet is set upon by an enemy fleet. Can you succeed with your mission, or will the presence of Q prove to be your downfall?"

Highlights from the OP Pack

Use a planet and moon for this map.

OBJECTIVE
Destroy all of your opponent’s ships.

BONUS: Each player receives +5 Fleet Points for every one of his/her Mission Tokens that were removed from the game.

In addition, if the winning player has the fewest Mission Tokens left in his/her stack at the end of the battle, that player receives an additional +20 Fleet Points.

THE GAME ENDS WHEN one player is eliminated or the time limit is reached.

SPECIAL RULES

Q ABOARD SHIP
When building their fleets, both players must assign “Q” to one of the ships in their fleet as follows:
  •  “Q” must be assigned to the ship in their fleet with the highest Hull Value. If a player’s fleet has more than one ship with the same highest Hull Value, “Q” must be assigned to the ship with the highest Hull Value and SP total. If a player’s fleet has more than one ship with the same highest Hull Value and SP total, the player may choose which of these ships to assign “Q” to.
  •  “Q” does not require an Upgrade slot and there is no SP cost to assign “Q” to a ship.
  •  While “Q” is assigned to a ship, that ship’s Primary Weapon and Agility values are halved (round down).
  •  At the start of the game, place 4 Auxiliary Power Tokens on the chosen Ship Card.
  •  Once per round, after the chosen ship performs an Action, a player may remove one of these Auxiliary Power Tokens from the Ship Card and place it beside that ship. These tokens cannot be removed in any other way.
  •  Once there are no Auxiliary Power Tokens left on the Ship Card, place a Critical Hit Token on the Ship Card.
If you are interested in coming or learning the game leave a comment and I will try to help.

New Wheels for the RGH!

Hello all,

Just going over the big event from the weekend. The wife and I decided to give up the ghost on my old "Beater" car and get something a little nicer. After trying several dealerships running the gambit  from Classic "Pushy salesman" to being practically ignored we ended up at Honda of Dulles here in Virginia. This location is part of Autonation  a well... "Nation wide" organization of dealerships that specialize in a less pushy, intuitive approach. By this I mean they actually listen and go out of their way to make you happy. After all at the end of the day it's you who will have to pay for the car.

While there we met a fellow named Justin who we found out is relatively new to the auto sales business. The only real giveaway was his manager following up with us to make sure all the points were covered. There was really no need as this young man took to the job like a veteran. So if you are thinking about getting a new (or new to you) car I would suggest heading over to Honda of Dulles and ask for Justin. This guy knows his stuff.

So you will know him when you see him
Originally we were looking for a Jeep but when we saw this little lady I had to take a closer look.

Humble beginnings
Isn't she nice. a 2007 Ford Escape just what we were looking for to replace the old "Beater"
Here is a picture of the car just before we drove off with her.

See what happens when you mess with me. I make you disappear
The wife does not like her picture taken so I am happy to accommodate. Anyway we were pleased with the experience  and hope this is just the beginning of a long string of sales for Justin.

Till next time

Hobby Update

Hello all,

This past Saturday Fair Oaks GW held a painting contest with a valentines day theme. Here were the rules-

From the GW Facebook Page

"Blackheart's Painting Contest! THREE categories! The "Heart Breakers" category, any Female Model. The "Heart Takers" category, any Male Model. And lastly, the "Heart Smashers" category, any Monster-sized or larger model. For fairness, all models need to start off unpainted, preferably unprimed! Entries due at 12pm Sharp on 23rd Feb! Judging at 2pm 23rd Feb!"

Well both the wife and me decided to enter. She went with a male and female entry

  • Dark Elf Witch
  • Dark Eldar Mandrake

And I decided to go in with all three.

  • Arwen on Horse
  • White Dwarf Special model (Pirate Dwarf)
  • Dark Elf Black Dragon
All of our models were assembled and primed when brought in but the folks at the store didn't mind as we signed up almost a week after most others did. The wife finisher hers a couple of days before the contest but the old RGH was working right up to just before dropping them off! The wife also had time to build a really cool display base for her entry. She was the only one to do this and it really made her stuff stick out from the crowd.

After we dropped them off we decided to see the new Die hard flick and that was a hoot. with the movie complete we returned to the store to see how we did.

We did pretty well...

One of the misses entries (Male I think) was only a vote or so away from wining in the male category.

Way to go baby!

I discovered that I had won "Best over all" 1st and 2nd place with my Dragon and Dwarf!
I was shocked to say the least as there were many really good entries.

It is a nice feeling to know folks like my work...

Here are some pictures from the event

The Wife's Entries (Single models were taken before the bases were finished)

Mandrake

Witch
Love at first sight

Here were my entries

Arwen- This one did not do so well
This one was a lot of fun to paint

2nd place over all!
1st place- the wings were an airbrush experiment

in other News:

First Post for the Road to NOVA blog went up today-  Look at it here
----------------------------

Last year I was lucky enough to be a part of the Dreamforge kick starter putting in my $$$ for a plastic Levitation Crusader. These things were supposed to be out by Christmas but due to all kinds of delays and issues they did not ship till early this month. No biggie as I have tons of crap to work on anyway. Well last week this showed up at my door.

Hazah!
For giggles I went ahead and put Ada together.

--------------------------------

Lastly- Back in December (New years eve) I got a chance to play Hobbit SBG and guess what... It's actually pretty good. I am not going to go into the rules and stuff but here are some highlight pictures.

Evil- Trolls and Orcs
Evil- Undead

Evil- more Orcs

Good- Elves

Good- Rangers of the North

Good- Rangers and Captain
Good vs. Evil
Here come the Trolls!

Trolls are Hard in this game!
Where did the Trolls go?

Victory to the forces of Good!

Well that's all I have time for now.

 Till next time

March and April

Hello all,

The last few weeks have been "interesting."  I use quotes because it was not the kind of interesting I normally like but it came out well in the end. For starters my job ramped a bit and I find myself putting in longer hours than normal. All is good as I will be getting a boost in the old paycheck for my troubles. (After taxes I will probability owe money...)   I managed to take a vacation last week and the wife and I decided to use thos time productively. This of course meant labor :) The week was spent dusting, cleaning, and re-arranging  the entire apartment. As it stands all is better as I now have more space than before  and the place really did need a good cleaning.

As far as the NOVA goes... just check the "Road to NOVA" blog for the most updated information on this subject.

As for what I have been up to So far in April it's a big NOTHING! I have finished No figures nor done any appreciable hobby work this month. (With the exception of a NOVA build on the 7th.)

Back in March I did something cool. I decided to paint 100 miniatures to a very basic standard then use the Army painter dip (Medium shade) to finish them off. I manager to get the last 8 done on the 31st of March.
Here are some pictures of a few of the un-dipped figures.

The 100 complete

LOTR Hobbits
Sisters of Battle
Zombie
Pig Iron Mini
Old Chainmail Ogre
Priestess
Crusader
Harad Warriors
Harad Cavalry

Next time I will show the post dipped figures.
