Prep work

May 29 2013

Hello all,

I did not get much done yesterday as my car was hit while parked in the lot at my place. Before this happened I was able to get some things primed so I guess that counts as progress.

Here are some pictures of what I did.

Already starting to look cool

Hopefully today will be better,

Book Review

The following is a Book review of the first two books in Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series submitted by my lovely Wife who goes by Lakait in these parts. you may remember her from the Battle of Windle's tower series

----------------

I recently listened to audio versions of the first two books in Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series. In my Excel spreadsheet where I keep track of every book I own or borrow from the library, I've classified these novels as Fantasy Adventure. The books are:

Title: Published
Wizard's First Rule: 1994
Stone Of Tears: 1995

I was impressed with Wizard's First Rule, though it was frustrating that I kept being wrong about my plot line predictions. I think it was refreshing for RGH, seeing as how he is used to me being right a good 90% of the time, which usually resulting in him shaking his head at me. I rated the book as Excellent, which is the equivalent to 5 of 5 stars. Then I eagerly moved on to Stone of Tears.

This one was no where near the quality of the previous book. I went from being excited about the series to completely frustrated. We only made it about half way through the book and mostly that was because of RGH. I was ready to shoot the author after a couple of chapters. I've never seen such artificial plot development. It's understandable that a character, even a protagonist, even one the read likes, might make stupid mistakes. Everyone does so from time to time. But to have the main characters make so many dumb ass moves that it leaves the reader wondering how they managed to survive the previous book...well, there I draw the line. The impression I have is that Terry couldn't think of a way to continue the story without forcing Richard, Kaylin, Zed, and even Addy to create a horrible mess that they would then need to clean up. This is no way to run a plot, if you ask me.
Unfortunately, it seems that we will never get any deeper into these stories, because I can't imagine skipping to Book 3. And frankly, I wouldn't want to. There are still some very cool characters that haven't been tainted, like Chase and Rachael, but I don't think I can put up with Terry's B.S. just for them.

Well there you have it...

A new Idea- Journal #1

Craft world Stark

Hello all,

It has bee a while since I last posted and that one was short and bitter. I would like to get more posts out there. While I was listening to what has become my favorite Fantasy podcast Garage Hammer (Thanks Shades) I heard David W., one of the hosts, say that he has started a daily journal of his hobby work just to keep a running tally of what he has accomplished and to give him inspiration when the hobby seems overwhelming. I really liked this idea but I know that I would not be able to keep a written journal to save my life. Then I thought why not do it for the blog? It would kill two birds with one stone Journal entries to keep me motivated and more frequent blog posts. Win Win!

So here goes the first entry

Current Work from May 18th -May 21st

May 18th assembly day:
  • assembled 5 Fantasy Centigor models
  • assembled 24 LOTR Wood Elf Models
  • assembled 2 Hobbit Great Eagles
May 19th mixed bag

  • Purchased Spectra Airbrush paints
  • made a color chart for the new paints
  • assembled 1 LOTR Fellbeast with ring wraith rider
May 20th Airbrush

  • painted several Infinity Cargo containers for NOVA Open
  • Base coated and highlighted Knights of Blood assault team for 40K
  • Base coated and highlighted Necron monolith for 40K
May 21st airbrush and assembly
  • highlighted several of the cargo containers from the 20th
  • assembled Fantasy beastman chariot
  • assembled Fantasy Skaven Greyseer
I intend to add pictures for Journal posts and continue with my (sort of) regular posts as well. I think this will help me the way it has helped David from Garage Hammer and will get more posts out for folks to see. Please feel free to comment on any of the projects I post up I am always looking for feedback or advise on my projects

BTW: the picture at the top is a nod to the upcoming Eldar release that looks good but expensive.

Till next time
