New Project (Really short post)

What could it Be?

This is a test card to work on some Air brush techniques I picked up from Imperial Armor Model Master class II.

Hopefully I will be able to learn enough from this series of tests to "up my game" to the next level.

Check back soon to see what's going on...

Whats been going on... Hobby update

Hello All,

It's been a while since I last gave a hobby Update so here it goes-When 6th ed 40K came out I decided to really push to complete a 40K army.Though I have lots of stuff painted and I can field armies with all painted troops,  I do not have an army for 40K that I consider truly  complete. After a lengthy discussion with my wife we came to the consensus that the Space wolves would be the army to finish. Here are our reasons

1.  It is my oldest army- I started collecting it back in 2000 so it is a 12+ year old army
2.  It is mostly done already- I had less than 40 models to paint when I started the final push
3. I think they are good choice for 6th ed.- They have tons of choices and allow me to play several types of armies not just one or two
4. it is a cross section of  my painting ability over the last 12 years. You can really see how my style has changed over the years (Mostly for the better)

Well here is a shot of the most recent stuff I have worked on.

Meanwhile at the NOVA Factory....

From The Road to NOVA Blog

Hello All,

Just a quick update. This past Sunday we were busy with last minute NOVA details. The main focus was on Swag Bags. We spent hours filling hundreds of these things! I am not at liberty to disclose what went in them but I can say it blows the doors off of last year’s offerings. I look forward to hearing people’s thoughts on our swag bags during and after the event.

A job that I got assigned was to update and prep the official NOVA Open desktop computer.  This thing has seen some years but it is still a solid system for our needs. It will be available for list mods that may be needed as it has a current copy of Army Builder installed.

Lastly we had to get everything and I mean everything stuffed into the storage locker. MVB also mentioned this on his own blog, but I thought I would just touch on some fun facts:

  • The Swag Bags and VIP bags took 2 trips to move them all.
  • We filled up 2 SUVs and 3 cars
  • We had to transport almost all of the bags into the locker by hand as no carts were available.
  • MVB let us know that (if he wanted to) he could have done it all by himself… :p

Well that Might have been an exaggeration.

It looks like we are almost ready for what will be the greatest NOVA to date!

See you there

NOVA OPEN It's coming!!! Be ready

Hello All,

I am doing a shameless plug for the NOVA open as I have contributed a lot of time over the last year to this event and I would like to see it be a successes.

Our team of volunteers have spent 8 months building shaping and painting everything from LOS blocking buildings and ruins to hills to the very tables the game is played on. We have built terrain for 40K, Infinity, and Warmachine/Hordes.  I can honestly say that this year features some of the best tournament terrain I have ever seen. To see a visual history please visit The “Road to NOVA”:  http://roadtonova.blogspot.com/

As for game systems we are featuring multiple tournaments for 40K, Fantasy, Warmachine/Hordes, and Infinity as well as pickup games and a narrative event that will blow your socks off!   See more here: http://www.novaopen.com/?page_id=904

For those that don’t want to play in a ton of tournaments there are painting classes that including advanced weathering and airbrushing just to name two.  Here are the details: http://www.novaopen.com/?page_id=2010

We are also having our first Major painting competition multiple categories and some FANTASTIC prizes including a trophy you would actually want to display!  See more here: http://www.novaopen.com/?page_id=886

For those who like shopping there will be 11 venders at the event including the Warstore and Spikey bits!
See the full list of supporters : http://www.novaopen.com/?page_id=936

Food- for the first time NOVA has access to meal plans that beat the pants off of local prices and are purchased by meal, day or the all weekend meal deal!
Take a look at what you get here- http://www.novaopen.com/?page_id=2206
It really is a good deal!

For more information visit the NOVA Open website or for specifics about up to the minute decisions and changes see MVB’s own home away from home Whiskey & 40K

So If you are on the fence about going or if you will be in the DC area at the end of August and want to get in on the fastest growing war gaming convention  on the east coast then NOW is the time to jump on it before you miss out.

Thanks for reading-

Ships of the Line

The Fleet sets sail

Hello All,

2 weeks ago I got a chance to play Dystopian Wars  (DW) for the first time. It was an instant hit! I played the Federated States of America and my opponent played the Prussians. We used small forces (around 700 points each) and had a hell of a game. Foe the board I pulled out my Dread Fleet Sarong...er  mat.

I think I was winning when we ended around Midnight but it could have gone differently if we had finished it out. This game is fantastic and I cannot say enough good things about it. In fact I was so impressed that I ordered my own Fleet! After reading the fluff from the rule book and looking around on-line I decided to go with the Republique of France. Mostly because I REALLY like their Skimmer Battleships and Cruisers!

My Fleet arrived from the Warstore earlier in the week and all other modeling projects stopped while I assembled the French Fleet. Below are some pictures I took of the assembled ships. As the DW ships come in white resin the details don't show well with my camera; so several of the pictures have been "touched up" (HDR- High Dynamic Range) to allow the detail to show through. Thank you Picasa!

Marseille Class Cruisers

Lyon Class Frigate

Voltaire Class Heavy Interceptors

Tiny Flyer bases
As for my Dread Fleet game? ... While it was out I went ahead and assembled the models and even painted a few while I was waiting for the French to arrive. Here are some pictures of what's been done.

Just for Kicks I took this picture of a Pocket Battle Ship and the High Elf War Ship for a size comparison

I wounder if the Games can be combined?
