Journal 21

Hello all,

I finally finished the Aleph Infinity force I have been working since 2012. This has taken a long time to complete but I am done with it. I am not sure how I feel about the way they look. They are nice but I hit several brick walls while working on this project that I think kept me from finishing them in a more timely manor.

I don't care much for the Aleph models. Infinity has some of the coolest looking mini's on the market today but much of the Aleph line looks like the leftovers that did not make the cut with the first few factions. The poses look like just that, poses, stiff rather than the elegant flowing motion that is captured by so many of the other models. It takes away from the set as a whole. The bots on the other hand are pretty nifty and they were fun to do. (I guess that's why they were finished in 2012.)

The above is how I feel but the reality is that painting Infinity is a whole different animal than painting 40K or WHFB oe even Warmachine. The dirty line blurring that looks so good in the Grim dark of these setting looks sloppy when applied to an infinity model so different techniques need to be applied. In my case its like going back to basics and learning to paint again. I actually dipped one of the models 3 times before I got a result I could live with. I still have a long way to go.

I have 2 more factions to paint so "here's hoping"

Bow to the Cowmasar!

Back from the Nova

Hello all,

Just a quick entry. I am back from the Nova. I am pleased with the event overall and happy that it went so well. I managed to actually work longer than I did last year. 72 hours in 5 days!  An that is not the record. some of our folks put in over 100+ hours.

The New paint judging system worked better than expected despite some hiccups. (Shades if you are reading this Great Job man!.)

Today was breakdown day at the hotel. Lots of work but it's finally all done. another NOVA down many more to go.

Some of my stuff got to be displayed in the capital palette showcase
even if they were not part of the competition.

NOVA Open is only a few days away

A new look?

Hello all,

It has been a busy month so I apologize for the lack of cool stuff. The Nova open is one week away and there are still many things that need to happen. At least all of the Tectonic pieces are put together and ready for deployment. (Pictures coming soon.)

We have spent the last few weekends doing the background work that (when done right) is transparent. Things like Inventories on supplies for the NOVA store, Prepping Swag Bags, and general pre-event   "this and that"; a thousand little details that need to be right so the event goes off properly. As I said it left very little time even on weeknights to post anything as most of the time I was busy or just too tired to mess with it.

If you are going to the event (and if not you should) be sure to take a moment and reflect on all the hard work that is needed to pull off an event like the Nova open. So If you see a member of the staff be sure to give them a pat on the back or a thumbs up to let them know you appreciate what they do to make our event great. I am sure it will be appreciated by them in return.

Anyway-I will end with this - My wife's concept for a warning sign for the Infinity board I built.

"Box Cars"

Just a quick update on all those wood kits from Tectonic Craft studios.
This time around we are talking about Box cars. These things are pretty neat kits to assemble and paint. I think they came out really well. At today's NOVA staff meeting they were a huge hit. The NOVA open will be using them for Warmachine/Hordes as center pieces. Anyway check them out and let me know what you think.

The Pope car (Protectorate of Menoth)
Khador
Cygnar
A yellow car (No Faction)
An abandoned train car
I have been asked several times about the decision for the weathering pattern I chose. In this case starting in the center of each panel and leaving color near the edges. In the beginning this was an accident. I started doing it then realized too late that it it was not the normal way rust would work. I was all set to paint over it and start again when I stumbled upon some pictures of rusted train cars that actually had a similar effect. I made the decision to go "Go with it" and hope for the best. I think it's pretty cool looking...

That said, I still count this as a happy accident. :)

These have great detail burned into them.

The doors open as well

Stacked and ready for the NOVA
WarJacks and Warbeast shown for scale.

Khador vs. Cignar!

Well that's all I have time for right now.
